Caribbean GSE

Week Two - April 20 to 26, 2008

Still in Sint Maarten, so we don't miss Carnival, watching the Children's parade on Sunday.  The school teacher, we discover, has a special way with children.

"Louie speaking"  Making a call on his cell phone our Sint Maartin GSE Coordinator, known locally as Mr. Rotary, sports a special tattoo.

So much happens on Tuesday it's hard to mention it all, two Rotary meetings, two hospitals, sports center, museum, beach bar and nightlife.

Moving from the Dutch side to the French side of Saint Martin, on Wednesday we meet President Louis-Constant Fleming and Prefect La Croix.

Tennis by the beach preceded breakfast on Thursday.  In the afternoon, Victor took us for a boat ride and drink at Smoky's in Anguilla.  After the evening Rotary meeting, I get a hug from President Anike.

With Alexandra's help I regain Internet access.  Victor found a cannon in the sand during the 1970's and brought it to his house.  We enjoyed a reception by Catherine at her gallery Friday afternoon and in the evening, dinner with the Saint Martin Nord club.

On Saturday we leave our Saint Martin hosts and move to Saint Barthelemy for a wonderful time with new hosts and new adventures.  Lunch is at Cheeseburger in Paradise, subject of Jimmy Buffet's famous song.  Later was a delicious dinner and wine with the Pain family.
